Premack Principle at Work: \"Go Sniff\" at the Park Premack Principle at Work: "Go Sniff" at the Park
Posted by: thistlemiss

Video duration: 238 seconds

Here I am working with Duchess, building voluntary focus in a distracting park setting. Each time she checks in, she's getting two rewards: a treat and a release cue to "go sniff." She's on a long line here and could ramble around pretty freely if she wanted to. What she chooses most often is a lovely position at my side with eye contact--which is a foundation skill for Loose Leash Walking.

How To Tame an Iguana pt.2: Hand Feeding How To Tame an Iguana pt.2: Hand Feeding
Posted by: thistlemiss

Video duration: 394 seconds

After three days of careful negative reinforcement (me taking my hand away whenever Spot moved calmly), I can now switch over to positive reinforcement. Here you can see how much more comfortable he is getting with my hands. My goal is for him to walk onto my palm. Today he was able to walk forward and eat out of my palm. So we are well on our way. Pretty soon I am going to try target training.

Video duration: 291 seconds

Philippe is a really wild guy. It has taken me weeks to get to the point of being able to trim his nails at all without him growling at me or leaping across the room. He has taught me absolute patience. Using spaghetti to desensitize him to the sound of the clippers is a brilliant idea--thank you Laura!

Here I am prompting a little bit by standing over her left side so as she flops down she looks towards me to where the treat will appear---this encourages the roll over. I fade the body prompts quickly, however and sit back down in the chair. When she seems to have it, I add a cue. "Roly Poly."

Still a little wobbly here and there but I'm happy because Zoë's final run through looks like she's having fun. it is very important that each cue be reinforcing, so my goal is to see her go "Oh boy!" each time I give the next one.
