@Litarider: Humans would have much pain while they healed if they had 3 other legs to stand on. Yes, doing nothing will not "fix" the ACL injury but the tissue surrounding the joint hardens to support the knee over 8 + weeks. The limp also keeps the dog from injuring or reinjuring legs.? Different maybe if you have a very young dog, mine's 13 y.o. Just telling you that vet surgeons will always recommend surgery - and that''s B.S.

Just had my dogs knee done on Thursday, she is recovering (long process). We tried to avoid surgery even with laser treatments for 5 weeks, but she fell back onto the knee when she was just standing.try to avoid the surgery at all costs didnt work for her :( We? live in NY it cost us 6,000! with one follow up visit. I have to have new xrays taken in 3-4 months which will cost I am sure up into the 100's.its a shame that when something happens they really take you to the bank . . . :(

The price depends on where you are located and the number of qualified surgeons in your area. My dog had his first ACL done in the Philadelphia, PA area. It cost us about $3000 (no follow up included). We had higher and lower estimates for the surgery. We are now in California in the East Bay Area and our? dog is having his second TPLO today. We will pay around $5000 for the surgery (1 follow up visit included). Shop around and ask a lot of questions.

As the owner of a rescued dog who had 2 ruptured ACLs, I can tell you that doing nothing does NOT fix a dog's knees. It is true that the pain may be worse at some times than it is at other times, which may cause a decrease or disappearance in? symptoms temporarily but it ALWAYS returns. Telling people not to fix their dog's knees if they can afford to fix them is not the best advice. Ask any human who had a torn ACL repaired about the extreme pain before surgery.

hi im really concerned i have 2 rottie pups who are six months of age they are brothers. The question is how can a six month old pup have? a cruciate left ligament tear and just a week after his brother has the same thing? please help is it due to bad breeding or just unlucky?

Google ACL injury in dogs before put your you jump on the vet's operating table. Surgery is often presented as the only option because it is a cash cow. Simply doing nothing will stabilize the joint and doing nothing for at? least 8 weeks is highly recommended.

Anybody who has gone through this with there dog can you tell me. Our labrador has it and they? told us before she can be operated on she needs to lose weight which she has but not enough yet. Shes been doing hydrotherapy and its been working however just today after she went my father dropped her when he took her out the van and she landed on the bad leg and now she cant walk again all that hard work down the drain is there a chance she hasn't done more damage

this was a terrific video showing and? explaining how the cruciate ligament is connected to the knee. The demo really does show it very simply for those of us who are not veterinarians! My 5 yr old Australian Healer/Beagle mix just tore hers and will be having surgery this week. When the Vet explains it you really can't get a clear picture of what it is all about. this video lets you see it pretty clearly. Thanks!

Thank you so much for doing this. My West Highland is going in for an operation to repair her cruciate ligament tomorrow and although the vet did explain, it was hard to concentrate? on what he was saying at the time as i was so worried about her. Thanks again.
